Oscar®-winning editor Stephen Mirrione, ACE says he “didn’t know anything” about Formula One before working on the film. But that didn’t matter once he read Joseph Kosinski’s script. The commitment to authenticity, deep research, and sheer ambition made the decision easy.
His goal was to make a film where the racing serves the story—not the other way around. No matter how groundbreaking the cinematography, audiences wouldn’t stay invested if every race felt the same.
Working in Media Composer, his team used tools like ScriptSync to instantly locate specific takes by searching dialogue, allowing him to move quickly between the intimate character moments and the high-octane action. Multicam-based editing helped him fine-tune the rhythm of each sequence, ensuring the film built momentum rather than numbing viewers with spectacle.
