You’ve seen this effect a thousand times on news channels, Dateline, 20/20, the ID Channel and more. The effect of a blurred background and a clear foreground that is not full frame, easing in (zooming in, panning, etc…). This is an awesome way to use non-full frame video and/or images/pictures, while keeping the background interesting and still directing your viewer on where to look.
This effect works great for smartphone (vertical) video and images that are not full frame. In this video we’ll use 3D Warp and the Blur Effect in Avid Media Composer to achieve this effect. Once you learn it, it only takes a couple minutes to put together. This effect will boost your productions to a professional level. Don’t forget to save your effects in a bin to quickly reuse them across your timeline!
